Elite Young Mature Fitness Models

For one star-studded evening, it seemed like the good old days of 2007 for the beleaguered New York fashion world. Designers, elite models and actresses strutted along the red carpet to honour the most powerful figure in their industry – Anna Wintour, the legendary British editor-in-chief of US Vogue.

They were attending last week’s glitzy elite premiere of The September Issue, a fly-on-the-wall documentary by film-makers given unprecedented access to the hallowed portals of the fashion bible and the famously formidable force that leads it.

Designers such as Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan and Sean “Diddy” Combs and fitness models actresses Sienna Miller and Renee Zellweger joined a clutch of statuesque models, assorted fashionistas and Manhattan power players for the splashy event.

Peering out from beneath her distinctive pageboy haircut and occasionally donning her young mature trademark dark sunglasses, Miss Wintour, 59, was also there, of course. She chose an orange Prada printed dress for her big night – clearly unconcerned by any comparisons with her fictional alter ego in the movie The Devil Wears Prada.

The viewing was followed by an exclusive private party where young male models served champagne and canapés to the A-list crowd in the interior design of the Museum of Modern Art.

And high-profile publicist Peggy Siegal has organised another celebrity-filled screening in the Hamptons, New York’s fitness models exclusive summer getaway, before the film opens at cinemas in the US this week and in Britain next month.

The behind-the-scenes young mature footage follows Miss Wintour and her team for eight months during 2007 as they put together the September issue – traditionally, the most important of the year as the magazine is packed with adverts aimed at autumn shoppers.

The edition turned out to be the biggest in industry history, weighing in at a whopping five pounds and 840 pages, included 725 of glossy premium-cost ads. It confirmed the magazine’s behemoth status.

Little could Vogue’s editor or award-winning director RJ Cutler have guessed that what was being capturing for posterity was a high point in fashion and publishing before the two sectors were pummelled by the crash of 2008.

Those heady days already seem like a throwback to another, gilded era. Two years and one recession later, the new September Vogue has just hit the newsstands at 584 pages, of which 427 are ads – 40 per cent down on 2007 and 30 per cent down on last year.
